    Linksys WAG160N/WRT54G2

Giving up on the Netgear D834G v4...ADSL connection is truely pathetic without the DMG software (even connected at 300kbps at one point) and even with DMG software it was random in terms of connection speeds. Anyhow that is all in another thread somewhere.

Right now I am looking at going back to Linksys (hence the title of the thread).

The WRT54G2 can be had for less than £50 and the WAG160N can be had for around £65.

Had a butchers around the web and there is talk that the WAG160N is being phased out because it is so buggy (probably an anti-fan boy), yet there are alot of positive reviews for it on BB buyer. Confusing. I don't yet have anything that supports Draft-N wireless but may well do in the future. The laptop only has 802.11G wireless. (excuse the bad use of terminology)

So...gonna ask if anyone has owned either of these and if so, their experience with it or if anyone in the "networking" business know something that I do not know from internet trawling.

    Thanks in advance!

I've just been through your posts for the last month but can't find any reference to networking stuff, but how do you know that the connection speed issue is down to the router? If you've tried another piece of hardware without the issues then fair enough, I'm just interested as the DG834Gs seem to be pretty decent bits of kit in my experience.

As for which model to go for I can't help you as I've not used any Linksys gear in the last 4 years, though I will say that Draft-N has been around long enough now for me to suspect that it's never going to become a standard, so I woulddn't personally get too excited about it.

I see... seems like you've been through hell - who's your ISP?

EDIT - it seems your version have the Broadcom chipset, not the TI one that the previous ones had. Possibly worth checking which chipset the Linksys routers use?

The old Linksys AG241 (I think from googling) has the Texas Instruments ADSL CPE chipset.

    ISP is ADSL24.
