    Wow 19Mbps!!!

You lucky git! I think with a good DG834GT router and tweak of your speed you can get the max

    Re: Going to O2

just because the O2 message says max. estimated download speed 19Mb doesn't mean that's what you get.
I got the same message & I'm actually getting ~11Mb down on the "upto 18Mb" service.

I was quoted 9 on Be* and 10 from O2

Got 16 on Be* and now 14 on O2. The estimates weren't that far off for me.

That have to make some assumptions for the estimate, not just distance, but they have to assume your line is "decent".. If its not, then thats a problem that BT need to sort. Must admit, the wiring here bothered me. Place was built in 1850 (gradeII listed FTW!) and the wiring looks like it. Just for kicks I tried running a 30metre phone cable extension from a spur socket upstairs and it was abissmal.. Plugged into the master socket downstairs with a 1meter phone cable and its all good despite the miles of knackered Cat5 cable I'm using the spread the goodness around. So can deffintely do things to help yourself and if you suspect its the line outside, get BT out to fix it with some BS story about dropping phonecalls or a niosey line. I had them out years ago at another address back in the days of 512k and changing a ten pence cable splitter thing doubled my speed!!! Openreach guys are forever replacing stuff like that around here these days as the salt in the air corrodes them like theres no tomorrow I was told. (we all buy our cars from you city folk for the same reason, all ours are rot boxes! )

    Re: Going to O2

it's plugged into the master socket but I'm just outside the city centre so it's probably contention issues.

Its an estimate, and it is usually based on out of date information provided by BT.

    BT ADSL estimates upto 6Mbps
    Be estimates 14Mbps
Various websites with telephone exchange info estimates 2Mbps-6Mbps
My own router when I was on Onetel 2Mbps suggested I should get around 20Mbps

Actual sync speed after fastpath and 3db profile is upto 22Mbps

NB To be more precise, initial sync speed was actually 14Mbps, but line attenuation was 20 which implied I should be connecting at a faster speed, which I now am after correcting my house wiring.

    Re: Going to O2

Actually trying to get myself moved over to 02 as well from Virgin Media but the familia like the TV and stuff so I'm seeing if BT will fit a new BT line to my room. I just hate VM now. (Currently downloading at 110k/s on my 10Mb connection).

    Re: Going to O2

you'll probably find it cheaper to go to Sky for your TV than staying with VM for TV only.
