    Going to O2

WOOO. Cant wait, bye bye tiscali

They are charging £50 a mounth for a tiscali line, phone and broadband.

BT line, phone and O2 20mbps broadband comes in at about £25 a mounth. Parents pleased, and me too.

    Predicded speed of 19mbps.

Anything that I need to know (still need a MAC code, but tiscali are not open on sundays) but appart from that, should all be fine.

Also how long will it take??

    Re: Going to O2

Legally Tiscali have to provide a MAC code for you within 5 days (or 3 days I can't recall)

Once you give the MAC to O2 they will quote up to 14 days, but if you already have a BT line or ADSL previously, then this can vary between 3-10 days

On a Tiscali line atm they said it was cheeper and the parents got one. But BT one on the 14th. If I fill out the form tomorrow, I take it the switch will happen when the BT line comes (or before)?

You'll have to switch to the BT line first before it can happen I think.

Don't forget the Quidco or TopCashback so you can get £70 back

    Nice chioce.

http://www.quidco.com/o2-home-broadband/ (EDIT: Signup with Quidco, login, and click the link on the page to go through to the O2 site. Complete the transaction, get your monies a couple of months later assuming it tracks ok. Theres a huge FAQ on the site)

^^ Sucks as was only £50 when I did it.

Agree with Moogle, you'll probably need the BT line before anything can really move forward allthough if you've ran the test and O2 have given you a predicted speed, maybe not as Tiscali is a BT Line, same as a Post Office, Sky, etc. Don't think it says anywhere you have to pay BT your line rental for ADSL X, Y or Z, you just need to be on the BT network.

Don't believe the install date O2 give you either, mine was activated days before they said.

Basically you click a link through the cashback site, it directs you to the retailer/site and adds a tracking cookie that the site recognises. When you go through with the order the site recognises that tracking cookie and knows you have come from "X" cashback site.

They pay the cashback site some money and the cashback site gives you the money either through your bank account (ie they bank transfer it to you) or through paypal. Because you might stay as a long term customer what they pay you is way less than the profit you will possibly generate for them over the time you are a customer hence why they can pay you the money etc. When I signed up to Be* I used the Quidco site to get £40 back and it took about 3 months as they have to validate it etc to make sure it's not just a cancelled order a fake one etc but I got my money and it came through by BT (Paypal you lose some in fees etc).

However Quidco they will charge you £5 a year (ie take it out of your cashback earnings) but TopCashBack doesn't so you'll get the full £70 from them. I can vouch for Quidco and TopCashBack and there's a thread titled Quidco where someone asked about it and if you read through it you can see it's quite safe and alot of forum users here use it.

Yeah mine was instant because I switched over from Be* but when I first got it they said I could plug my modem in in the 7th but it was the 29th of the previous month and I was already on

Ow well, worth a try. Told my dad now anyway, he is pleased with the £25/mounth savings, pluss one off payment of £70. Maybe he can buy me a G15 to go with my G9 he got me for getting all A's in my AS modules earlier in the year

    Congrats on the all A's.

AFIAK, the name on the quidco account doesnt have to match the name on the O2 order. The surname and address will be the same anyway I assume, so can't see it causing a problem. Can get Moogle and myself a G15 too then.

Yeah nothing needs to match just as long as the tracking cookie is there. I always use IE cleared cache, history the lot and then proceed on there so nothing interferes with the tracking

    Re: Going to O2

Thanks, but I don't think that any of us will be getting the G15. My Dad thought that £40 for a mouse (hampster as he insists on calling them) was far to much. £50 for a keyboard, and he may start to get anoied. Maybe in a couple mounths of time....

Me: "Dad seeing as we have been with O2, and BT for 4 mounths now, and I did ALL the reasearch, and setting up for you, AND this has SAVED you £170 now, could you buy me a new keyboard? Mine is getting woarn out, and it is wireless, so you are waisting money buying me new batteries"

    Dad: "Ok then"

Me: "Great, its a G15 to go with the G9, and costs about £50, and your buying Moogle and MehMeh ones from HeXus, as they recomended O2 and BT. Please, you will still have saived a total of £20 then, so we are all up"

    (Dad dies of shock)

    *OK, maybe not then

    Re: Going to O2

Well Tiscali could not possibly be more pushy on the phone. Reduceing the costs, informing me that my exchange has no LLU, my line is not strong enough, requiring a mobile phone number.
    So who's lieing????
Tiscali on the phone stating that BT Openreach's site say no LLU, and only 6.5mbps on my line.
    Or
    O2:

    ??? I wonder, Tiscali. Possibly

    Re: Going to O2

Lying gits! Pretty sure if you could be bothered, Ofcom would be interested to here about their lies... I remember when I cancelled with Virgin, they said similar, my line would only support 6.5Mb, but in the defense of the woman I spoke too, she had no idea about LLU and ADSL2 and actually thanked me for the info and I left her considering changing to O2 herself LOL!. Is obvious Tiscali are prepared to goto any length to keep customers though.. Just like with Virgin, makes you wonder if they put as much effort into looking after customers in the first place, eh?

You've got the same predicted speed as I had btw.. I sync to the line at 22000/1300, speedtest says 20Mb/1.2Mb. (never did work out why I sync at 22Mb on a 20Mb line, but neither am I in a hurry to ring O2 and ask)

And LOL! @ G15.. Fifty quid for a keyboard is shocking though, I bought a dozen Saitek cheapies at auction years ago and change every few months when I've worn out or bust one.
