    Gateway vs Router mode?

Has anyone else noticed that on some routers there is an option to choose whether it operates in router or gateway mode. What does this mean exactly?

The gateway broadcasts the signals it gets across all connections(LAN that is). The router will do the same but will also inspect the packets and replace the IPs if a packet's destination is outside the LAN so that a computer outside the LAN will be able to respond when it receives a packet.

    Re: Gateway vs Router mode?

The router has a built in switch though, not a hub, so I don't think anything would be broadcast. Also, I've tried both settings and I can't see any difference.

Edit: What should it be on?
