Netgear WGR614v9 'Unsecured'

I have just set up my new Netgear WGR614v9 wireless router.
I have changed the name that it advertises, and also added WEP 64bit logon.
It advertises with the new name and logon and this works fine.
But...
It also still advertises as "NETGEAR" and is also unsecure! In effect it now has 2 profiles.

I have carried out a factory reset and tried to load latest firmware, but the file comes down as a ".chk" file so the router will not accept it.

This is my second of these routers the first set up OK, without issues.

are you 100% sure you are logged into the correct router?

The "NETGEAR" profile only transmits intermitently, but I logged onto it, then pulled the power lead on the router...and my connection dropped out.So, yes it is the same router.
When I was logged into "NETGEAR" I cannot access the router admin pages. When logged into the secure profile I can access the admin pages.
I also run it as a "hub" and it works fine.
