Extending wireless range of Sky's SAGEM F@st 2504 using NETGEAR DG834N

Hi - I will be grateful if someone can help me extend the range of a SKY SAGEM F@st 2504 Router.

1) The SAGEM F@st 2504 Router has been supplied by SKY Broadband and appears to have its latest firmware. Its advanced features also appear also mostly locked up by SKY.

2) I also have a Netgear DG834N from a previous ISP. I have been able to get the SKY DSL username and password and been able to configure it to connect to the internet as well. The Netgear already has the latest firmware also.

3) How do I get the Netgear to extend the wireless range of the SAGEM. The SAGEM has the DSL cable connected to its back. I want to keep the SAGEM on the ground floor and the Netgear on the 1st floor.

I am told that the Netgear needs to act as a bridge or repeater. But I have no idea how to do this and will be grateful if someone can share step by step instructions (I am not very technically proefficient but get there in the end).
