Anyone know of any NAS boxes that let you search them in a decent way?
Don't care about price
Cheers,
Steve.
Define "decent way" - I'd imagine some of the more hackable linux ones would allow for some kind of indexing to be hacked in.
Windows clients? locate32? I use it for my x3 HDDs. The index updates on a schedule of your choice. It is very speedy.

Windows Home Server, with the new features in windows 7 libraries, it just keeps getting better and better!

Unfortunately if you don't have WHS then the windows 7 libaries cannot be used as the location must 1st be indexed, and iirc windows 7 will only allow local drives to be indexed?
Some NAS devices have built in search on the web file gui, for instance the synology NAS boxes have a search prompt on the filestation and admin webgui. Having said that it is a basic keyword search, no advanced properties.
locate32 looks like it may do the job, i might try that myself.

WHS has indexing support, which ties in with Vista and later searching automatically.
On my Windows 7 laptop (using it now) i have the Photo's folder i have on my WHS included in my Picture library.
So say if i now do a search for "Watergate Bay", i see a couple of emails, and a load of photos
It just fricken works, no effort, no complexity. I would highly recommend it to OP.
