Can't connect to Broadband over network switch

Ok I've probably missed something stupid during the setup of a new broadband router but now i cannot connect to the net when the router is plugged into our office switch. I can ping the router and gain access to the setup software via IE but none of the PC's on the network connect to the net. Each PC is set to DHCP and the router is set as the DHCP server. As far as i can tell the router is giving each PC its own IP address ok and IE LAN settings are automatic. one thing i noticed is that the Default gateway is blank in the router settings therefore each PC doesn’t show a default gateway! But since DHCP is enabled perhaps this is fine? The only thing i can think of is to set it up using manual settings but id prefer DHCP if possible.

Any suggestions would be a great help

    Thanks Hexus

You need to define the default gateway, otherwise the computers will only talk to each other - they won't know where to send packets where the destination is outside the LAN.

In this case the default gateway will be the same as the DHCP server but doesn't have to be, you could have a different machine acting as the DHCP server, but it would still have to hand out the router's IP address as the default gateway.

Re: Can't connect to Broadband over network switch

Thanks both, sorry for the delay in reply. Oddly I went into work the next morning and it all worked fine

The router is now acting as the DHCP server and is giving out ip's no problem. One of the PC's strangely though could not pick up an ip so I had to manually configure it, which worked but I’m puzzled why it wouldn’t resolve an ip through DHCP
