    Re: Signal strenth test

Just found this Belkin Powerline AV+ 3-Port Networking 200Mps 2 Adapters New Enclosures - F5D4075uk. Might be what i'm looking for. It seem one of the adapters has 3 switch ports on it. Anyone now much more about this one?

Of what i have found out it mentions a router. My question now is would it work from the modem or woudl i need a standard router?

edit: Scrap all that just found it on the belkin site- Kit includes a 3 port adapter to support multiple devices such as AV equipment and gaming console, as well as a single port adapter to plug into a router.

    Damn!!

Erm... does your "modem" take care of DHCP? Do your PCs get given a private address, or can you just connect one machine at a time?

If it does DHCP and NAT then you can be safe to assume that what you're talking about should work fine.

All I know is that the home pc is given an ip address! Whether that is by the modem or not i have no idea. When it come to modems and routers i'm lost.

    click start>run

type "cmd" (no quotes) and press enter
in the box that appears type "ipconfig" (no quotes) and press enter
post the ip address (or the first 3 chunks if you're worried about security/privacy) here and I'll tell you. Alternatively post the make/model of your modem and I'll do my best. If you can connect more than one PC at a time you're safe to assume you have a router though.

Virgin Media? In that case... possibly worth pointing out that they've been handing out wireless routers for aeons now, and that you've been a good customer in that time so maybe they want to give you a freebie?

Yeah now with Virgin Media. I thought they may have stopped handing wireless routers out! Will give them a call when my shifts switch back to evenings.
