    Just a quick phoneline question...

    Hey guys just a quickie,

basically i have recently had to go adsl through sky, I have always been on cable though so i need to ask a noobie question,
should any phone lead extention work with the adsl router i have? because when the guys from sky installed me the phone lead he made up for me works with the skybox and phone but not with the router, it was being filtered aswell and i even tried unplugging the phone from it and just tried the router with it but still no green internet light would appear, it wouldnt bother me having the phone and router in the hall by the phone point except there is no plug socket

is there a nice long (about 20 metres) phone lead i can get from say, homebase that should be fine for the router? i only ask as im off work tomorrow and want to get it sorted because there are lots of long leads all across the landing and shes going mad!

why no take the filter off the main socket and put a filter at the phone and skybox ?

but yeh any DIY shop has a phone cable that will work so long as its connected before the filter.

Hey I had it filtered both ends! have seen retried, taking your advice and it is working fine, done a speed test and i have lost a few kb's of speed but it is a really long lead (gotta be around 20 metres) so is that normal?

tbh each time you sync it will grab what it assumes is the best speed. a few kb is nothing and could be down to a few dozen factors, local exchange reaching capacity due to downloaders, the speedtest site getting abused, modem assuming its the best speed for line noise.

i wouldnt worry about it, 20 meters is nothing compared to the distance from the exchange

glad its working, the mrs can leave u in peace now

try unplugging the sky box as well as there buggers for killing connections.

Completely off topic, but there's a banksy exhibition that's just opened today in Bristol if you're nearby

I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.
