free/v. cheap webspace with ftp - recommendations wanted

need some (100Mb would be nice, 1Gb would be superb) webspace with ftp to host files on.
Plenty available if I want to upload individual files but I want to upload folders full of stuff via ftp.
would rather not have to provide my own domain.

Trust Hexus user recommendations over whatever Google throws up .

Is Skydrive or similar an option, or does it have to allow ftp? 25Gb of storage for free, no need for a domain but it's a maximum file size of 50Mb and you have to use their web upload thingy by the looks.

thanks for replying but no, Skydrive isn't suitable atm as you can't ftp stuff to the space but have to browse & upload individual files (upto 5 at once iirc).
I've got certainly hundreds if not 1000s of files & I'm not sitting doing those individually ...

I use a 1&1 Home hosting package for stashing my stuff online. It was more by luck than judgement tbh, as I originally got it to set up a personal site. http://order.1and1.co.uk/xml/order/H...op&__lf=Static
The home package gives me 1.5gb of space to play with scads of nic-nacs I've never used & have no intention to use. There are a few pages thrown up, but that's just a links stash. Costs me about £5 a month, but you get £2.49 a month for the first 6 months at the mo.

Fair enough, I thought it might be something like that. I've been using TSOHost to run a couple of sites for the past few years on their 2.99/month package - not sure if that's cheap enough, but you can use a subdomain of tsohost (normally your username) to prevent you having to register a domain, or just use something like FreeDNS to get a free domain name. 2.5Gb of storage. The servers aren't the fastest, but for the price I'm not grumbling.

I rate them very highly, although the storage doesn't look great atm

    that looks interesting ...

edit: or at least it did until " Account cannot be used to store files only "
still, I suppose that I could stick up a homepage as a cover

If it doesn't need to be accessible to others, you could try gmail drive, you can drag and drop files in windows into gmail which gives you over 7GB.

No, but I'm curious why FTP is required.

Thinking on... doesn't the gmail gdrive thingy just map itself as a networked drive? If so... could you set a robocopy job to move the files?

I had diino.com recomended to me at the weekend, but apparently they use their own app for file transfer so I don't know whether FTP is supported. $50pa for 100gb of space.
