    Vigor 2820 wireless issue

    I see from reading through posts on here there are some fellow Vigor users on this forum. I have been using Vigors for a while now, and upgraded to the 2820 a year or so ago.

    Now periodically I get an issue where I can no longer connect to the wireless on the router. The laptop seems to see the wireless OK, but it just keeps trying and trying to connect with no joy. Sometimes I get the "Connected With Limited Access" message, other times it just doesnt connect at all.

    It's a great router, but I am having to reboot it every few days at the moment due to this problem.

    Anyone got any ideas ? I have tried firmware updates but still no fix.

    Thanks

    Latest and greatest firmware on the router?
    Currently 3.3.3

    Wireless encryption in use WEP, WPA, WPA2?
    Have you done a site survey? - are there any nearby networks on the same frequency?

    I got this with a different router but in my case it was because I was on the limit of the signal so it would drop out sometimes if people did things like put the microwave on.

    I don't have that router, but have had similar problems.

    Solution in my case was to change the wireless channel number from Auto to a specific one, say 11. It is possible that a neighbour's wireless router is using the same channel number as yourself!!

    Is the router set to accept WPA as well as WPA2? I've found this can hamper things sometimes.

    Get netstumbler and see what other wifi signals there are around you (walk around your abode). It's better than using the router to scan for APs because if your laptop sits between the router and the other AP the router might not see it while your laptop is still being hampered by it. The channel data you get from stumbler will help you choose the right channel
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Re: Vigor 2820 wireless issue

    Hi Tinners,

    I'm having exactly the same issue as you, mine seem to come about in recent months (owned my 2820 since about March).
    I've performed a few F/W updates since I've had it so I'm thinking its got to be something to do with that possibly?

    Mike
