Need advce on connecting several computers to wireless

    Hi,

I've recently moved & am now renting in a flat that has a wireless internet connection. I've several computers & so don't want to buy wireless cards for them all.
I've tried to stay away from wireless as much as possible, so don't know much about how to set this up. Do I need to get a wireless router with ethernet ports that will talk to the broadband wireless router via wireless?
If this is the case (or even not), could you please advise me on what I need & where I can get this cheaply. I've six computers that I'd need to hook up & currently only have a five port hub.

    Thanks.

If they are all in the same room (or where you can easily route an ethernet cable) use something like the WGPS606, as it negates most of the problems with wireless (signal dropping, packet loss - due to it being more akin to an accesspoint than standard PC card). This effectively what you are looking for in your post - and it has the added bonus of an inbuilt USB Print Server

I'm using one atm, running a deskjet and 4 PCs off of it (you can add more with a suitable switch).

I may have got the wrong end of the stick, but from what i read, there is already a wireless network in the flat/building for internet access, and i'm guessing that you don't control it but are allowed to use it? If this is the case, then there are two routes, one i understand, the other i don't.

The easiest (once its setup), but which i don't understand too well is to create a wireless bridge between the net access point and an access point that you control, you can then hardwire things to your access point. From what i know of bridging though, is that its not very reliable compatibilitywise - you may need to find out the type of access point that is currently in use and find compatible items - other people may be able to advice you.

Second, You could use one of you current pc's, set up a wireless network to the internet on this and then network via lan to the other things that you need. The first pc could then act as a gateway. This could be the easiest and cheapest way - all you would need is a wireless pc card, and the rest of the equipment i presume you have for wiring the LAN side together

Cool, good sugestions thanks, think I'll buy the kit suggested (cheap as well , prefer not to turn one of the computers into a gateway as it would then have to be on constantly & I tend to fiddle with my computers too much.
All the computers are in the same room (my bedroom)

    Thanks,

Bought it & now using it. Having to sort out all of my computers now so can be controlled by my main desktop

Quite simple to use, software install confused me temporarily & I couldn't go onto the device via browser due to it picking up some odd address...
