    Net slow down/disconnection

I'm at the furthest point from my wireless router but can still get 3 bar strength. However. recently if I have msn on and use the web the pages load a lot slower. Close msn and my web speed is back to normal.

I have tried using the web and having msn on at the same time in a good signal spot, and all was ok. So my question is could the fact i'm nearly at the edge of the signal range, cause slow down issues when msn is on and web browsing.

Its connected at 54Mbps and the network utilization jumps up to 7.89%. But everything seems to be back to normal. I'm thinking it may be just the signal becomes weak sometimes, and so can not support web browsing and msn at the same time.

Emm seems a bit strange, I would make your your using the latest drivers for your wireless card, try checking the manufactures site to see if there any any updates.

    Re: Net slow down!

When the network utilization jumped to 7.89% that was just the highest it went to I think. Just monitored it again and it went between 0.00% and 5.79%. Some days it will show I ahve 3 bars of strength and others like today only 2 bars. It has also just lost connection had to reconnect again to my router.

The only thing that has made the signal worse is that anew wardrobe has been put in my room, as before I would just about get four bars. So i'm thinking due to the distance and new obstacle in the way that may be the cause of my problems??

    Re: Net slow down!

This happened before where I will loose connection to my wireless router. It tends to happen when i only have two bar signal strength, but i have it set to automatic connect so connection comes back. But i'm struggling to find reason as to why its does this apart from the signal is low and so interference from phones etc is disrupting it. Is that a probable cause?

Please note that windows lies about 'connection speed'. Also the 3/5 bars or whatever is totally meaningless, it's driver/card dependent. Some cards say one thing, others a different thing. Never use this as anything but a guide.

Also as you transmit or receive data the 'speed' will change depending on droped packets, congestion etc. So in reality you'll never get full speed.

Maybe there is something in the way between u and the router? Ie a small amount of packets are ok, but when sent more, lots are dropped etc.

Have a bit play with the location of your router and twiddle the aerials. Who knows, it might improve

Can't move the router from where it is really!! I have moved it higher and also pointed the aerials towards my room.

    Re: Net slow down!

as a quick word of adive, dont point your aerials in the direction of your room, wifi signals generally radiate in a sort out doughnut ring at the top of the aerial (as though stuck the aerial in a middle of a doughnut ) if that makes sense, so if the router and your room are on the same floor you want the aerial/s to be pointing straight up.

What kind of router is it?
