yup id ring um after the weekend and see what they say then cos there taking the piss! and also ask for the free router

do you get any bundle savings? befour i changed it i was geting discount on the land line rental think it was about £6 discount so it was only a £5.

its also not unlimited as i found out this is what i get if i download ps3 games and demos non stop

Err I think we're on some bundle savings but they don't shave much off though. I called VM up afew days ago regarding my current package, first person I got through to was someone who didn't even know what the hell i was asking (I'm trying to badger them into increasing my upload speed), after another 10 mins on hold got through to some broadband specalist, so asked again for my u/l to be increased to 2mb which would be 10% of d/l (Nearly every other ISP offers atleast 10%) and the guy tried to fob me off with I should upgrade to the 50mb package and then they'd discuss additional u/l.

Sure I only pay around £25 a month for 20mb d/l but its frekkin useless with 70 kb/s u/l can't host game servers or crap all.

If that's all you're getting I think it's tech support you need rather than a package upgrade. On the 20 meg package you should be getting 768k upload. Ask for an engineer to come and see what's happening.

thats the problem with virgin, you have to be willing to cancel your package to take them all the way and ADSL is only an option if u have a short line to the exchange. ISP's are a real p.i.t.a.

I pay £10 for 20MB with Sky as I also have my TV and landline line rental with them and I get a solid 19.1MB/1MB U/D as Im very close to the exchange, however if anything goes wrong talking to any ISP customer services is like having teeth extracted and thats onlt after you get past the language barrier

Will have another go a phoning later, I don't live all that far from the exchange but I've never been ons ADSL before so I don't know what it would be like. Be estimates I'd get 13Mbps.

Nope still no luck. They keep referring back to the loyalty pack and when questioned they can't give a straight answer. Even when I said yeah I can go to O2 for about 15 meg for £15 per month they said oh but they use BT to deliver it and they said but you get quoted speed with VM all the time because it's fibre optic cable in your house - err no my exchange is LLU enabled so BT doesn't come into it, it's coax cable which enters my house and I often get far from the rated speed with VM and it has ridiculous caps if I decide to download a demo I have a quater of the speed I'm paying for for the rest of the day...
They're the one with the big discount button though so not much I could do if they didn't want to press it, will just have to keep trying. Either that or see what ADSL is like.

How you getting 20mb from O2 for less? I'm a o2 mobile user so the pro package would be 17.50/month but you need BT line and thats another 10/month which would bring it to more than virgin..

Plus I have no idea where/how far my local exchange is, where can I find this info? I'd love to have some solid data to use as leverage with VM.

Ahh right thought you meant kilobits. Don't forget Virgin's Broadband costs a fair amount more if you don't have a Virgin phone line too.

Indeed, this is what keeps me on vm is that i do not need to pay for a phone line....

...but this is now making me question if my package would be cheaper even if i paid for a phone line (which im not going to use) I'm paying about £35 for 10mb and XL TV. I reckon if i got a phone line in they will end up charging me less overall which is kind of nuts. Will have to look into it.

We always have a landline phone you see so it wouldn't make an difference for us. I think I remember a discussion a while ago about paying for a one month contract for a post office phone line or something then the BT line would remain connected for broadband use. Can't remember exactly though...
