    Belkin problem again........

I have had a belkin router since last October and everything started well!! My room which was at the furthest from the router had a good signal and the speed from the adapter with 9mb on speed tests (10mb VM line). Then 2 months later the speeds drop to 5mb and don't rise above! Checked the pc, checked the router, and anything else I could think no issues. So after sending the adapter back to belkin and getting a replacement (3 in total) the same problem persisted. So I decided to buy the belkin wall plug (big mistake!!)

Not used my pc fro the last 2 months due to power problem in the house (seem to be sorted now) so I used my laptop with the wall plugs. Yesterday decide to boot my pc as the power issues seem to have been sorted. Connected by pc to the wall plugs and all seemed ok! But today after leaving my pc for 2 hours the connection speed is very slow. I have reset the wall plugs, unplugged it from the pc but with no effect. As I said before I used the wall plug with my laptop so tried today thinking my pc was the fault, and slow speeds on laptop. How can a product fail after such a short time???

Any ideas as to what I can try before I give belkin a call ??? Oh i should mention the router is fine both myself and my sister use our laptops with it.

How do you know it's not your VM line?
Have you tried a direct connection from computer to router with an ethernet cable (no power adapter)?
Have you got any computers connected to it working like it should? If yes, connect that one with what you think is faulty and see if it still happens.

I know the speed have shown the VM line is not stable at 9.3mb all the time. However, using my laptop I have found no slow down in general use. As I said the belkin plugs were working fine with my laptop before, but know are ok to terrible on both the pc and laptop. Tonight I have been playing dod:source with my ping not going above 30 and mostly staying at around 23. Yet I still had a lot of lag. I know that the house has old wiring but it was working before. God I hate not having a direct connection to the modem

You'll either need another computer to test and/or a direct connection to the modem/router .. there's no way of telling which device(s) between your computer and the internet is not working properly..

I guess you could try testing locally within your network if you have another computer attached though; which would eliminate the possibility of it being VM if there's no problems.

    Re: Belkin problem again........

I will plug my laptop into the modem when i can. What should I be looking for??? Just do a speed test?

The home we have is connected to the router but never has any speed issues, just the same with the laptops which are fine on wireless. Its just my pc in my room which has a problem with the belkin plug and adapter.

edit: Just switched back to using the adapter as the belkin plug speed took another nose dive. But although the speed feels what it should be there are still some odd things. The little wireless symbol on the bottom right side shows: speed- 1.0 Mbps Signal Strength- Very Good (does sometime turn to Low)

Speed test . net give me 8mb and on the ping side 28 and line quality A. But then on thinkbroadband it give me only 5mb for the speed test. So you see i'm a bit confused as to how I can get 8mb speed and good ping, but my icon the pc saying its 1.0Mbps

    Re: Belkin problem again........

What you want to do is plug directly in to the router and see if you still have problems; if you're using the laptop, you can plug that same laptop into the wall plugs to compare.

If you get problems with only the home plugs then that's your likely culprit.

edit: as for testing, try doing what you normally do, gaming etc.

    Re: Belkin problem again........

I'm thinking it is the home plugs as the home pc has no issues at all. But i'll move things around just in case. Got an email off to belkin so hope i can get a replacement.
