    Recommend me a ADSL2+ Model/Router

My o2 modem is giving me a headache, with its random rebooting and the wireless not working half the time.

Anyhow I need something that's reliable, got good wireless, and would not mind some gigabit ethernet ports for future home networking. I currently use 85mbps homeplugs but I am looking to go wired soon.
Price wise I would be willing to go up to £100.

    Thank you

Have you tried updating the firmware? The router o2/be provided with its original firmware was a bit useless, but with an update did the job fine.

If not, a Netgear DG834GT off ebay (the place is littered with them £20) combined with a Netgear 1gigabit switch (£30 mark) should be fine so long as you dont need 11n support.

I ended up using the Netgear as I gained an extra 1.5mbit/s downstream on a real decent landline.

Firmware update? How would you do one manually?

Edit: I have the latest one which 7.4.20.4

    Re: Recommend me a ADSL2+ Model/Router

I'm using a Cisco 877 for mine which does the job very nicely, though I suspect that won't be of interest to you.

The ADSL2+ product from O2 is apparently fussy about what routers work because the authentication isn't done with a username and password like ADSL - it uses the MAC address of the ADSL port on the router plus (I think) your telephone number. It also uses a different VPI & VCI (0/101) compared to ADSL (0/38) so it might be worth checking the O2 Broadband forum before buying to see what models people are recommending.

    Re: Recommend me a ADSL2+ Model/Router

The DG834GT is ideal as it shares the same chipset as O2 use at the other end - hence why people report much faster and more reliable connections as a result. Plus they're fairly decent routers anyway, especially if you look at using 3rd party firmware like DGTeam.
    Moo.

I got hold of a DG834GUK for £20 much better than the standard O2 router. it was easy to set up following online instructions for BE/O2.

Remember if it is a G and not GT, then you play a chipset lottery unless the auction states which revision it is.
DG834G v1 to v3 use Texas Instrument AR7 chipset, v4 uses a Broadcom chipset (not sure model number), v5 uses Conexant.

The DG834GT doesn't have any revisions so all include the Broadcom chipset.
