Will an ISP upgrade / replace your router if it becomes faulty?

    Hi,

I have been with my ISP for years and I still have the old bundled speedtouch modem.

If it breaks will they replace it? Or if I requested are they likely to give me an upgraded item? (Current model)

I know I could just go out and buy a Netgear etc, but wondered if I could get a free hardware upgrade.

I am with Tiscali which is now Talk Talk.

    Thanks,

    Talk Talk will.

My girlfriend who was having connection problems was sent two different routers, free of charge, even though I kept telling them the problem was the noisy line. Eventually they sorted out the line and she had 3 routers lying about.

I have had my virgin/ ntl modem replaced twice free of charge.

However when I phoned up about random disconnects and such, even after telling them it wasnt the router as I had test another one and such things..they were adamant that it was and sent the router out at a £70! charge to us, yeah you can guess where the router went..right back at em!

Still ahve random problems now, given up on them fixing it, useless gimps.

Not sure what sky does with me TBH. Wouldn't surprise me if they wanted me to sign some contract for another 12 months before handing over any other kit....or got me to take out their extortionate extended warranty for my sky kit.....

TBH I'd rather buy my own kit knowing what it was and what it did rather than some crippled ISP supplied piece of crud.

As I understand it, Sky won't let you use your own router. Not officially at least. They password lock the router details to prevent you doing so .... and before anyone says it, yes I know you can get round that. But it's in the T&C's too.

So .... my attitude would be that I'm not paying a monthly charge for a service I can't receive. If the router craps out and they want my ongoing custom, they either let me use my own kit, or they supply another router ....or I go elsewhere. They can go swing in terms of renewing a 12-month contract, as far as I'm concerned.

VM certainly provide replacement cable modems. Or they used to. I haven't used them for a while.

As for Talk Talk, no idea.

they'll just send you a new one FOC

(obviously, after insisting you switch the old one on & off a few times, replace your microfilters etc)
