    Gigabit router/modem Recomendations

    Hi All,
I am looking for a 4-8 port gigabit router with or without ADSL modem. One that would support DHCP and address reservation is a must.

I would also like recomendations for a seperate modem if is better to have a seperate router and modem.

My current DG834 refuses to reserve addresses and has other issues, so it's going in the trash.

    all advice welcome

    Re: Gigabit router/modem Recomendations

There aren't many routers with a gigabit switch built in, and I can't think of any (in the domestic/SOHO sector). So your best options would be an 8 port gigabit switch and link that to a conventional modem router. As the limiting factor for the internet is the ADSL speed, the lack of a Gigabit port on a router isn;t really of importance.

As to kit - Graytek 8020 - has one Gigabit port and 3 100Mb ports. However it has two WAN interfaces, one via ADSL, the other a conventional lan so you could use an external modem if required.

AS for switches - I personally like Netgear, although others have reported problems wit them (at least the low end devices) but you can buy an 8 port Gb switch like the GS108 for well under £100.

Dont bother with a gigbit router.

Just buy the router of choice + gigabit switch.

I personally have a gigabit switch coming off my router, makes life easier.

If it was cable I would say DIR-655 hands down but since its ADSL then I'm not sure.

I'd agree with ppl above to router of your choice and good gigabit switch...

    Re: Gigabit router/modem Recomendations

I recently bought and am pleased with Netgear's DGN3500 modem-router which includes 4 gigabit ports as well as USB storage sharing functions. Not that I've tested the gigabit connection yet...
