Wierd 56k modem problem

Just installed a new computer for a family friend - just a 56k dial up.

This is wierd - with the computer OFF and the modem cable plugged into the wall , they can't get any incoming calls - all they get is a 'there is a fault on this line message' - however they can dial out no problem.

With the cable unplugged from the wall, no problem, they can get incoming calls

any ideas ?

just a pci 56k internal modem, nope - won't recieve calls on or off

do u know what pci modem it is?if not check the hardware tab
