Just Had My O2 Broadband Cancelled???

Totally confused at this point, just got home to find an email from O2 saying that they are cancelling my bb with them as i am outside of thier fair usage policy?. This has come as a total curveball as i barely download anything nowadays...along with the fact i'm on an 'unlimited' package. Can the kids Xbox Live/PSN useage affect this in any way?, i'm so confused...

You should definately query this and not just accept it.

Even if you have been going over their fair usage policy for whatever reason you should have had warnings first

Ring and ask what the hell is going on.

Once you've found out, I would be interested into their reasons as to why they decided on a whim to cancel your BB without any warnings.

Re: Just Had My O2 Broadband Cancelled???

The O2 wireless routers are rubbish, they come with WEP on them which can be broken in 15 minutes. You cannot change them to being more secure. Ask them for the bandwidth usage figures, if they are high and not a mistake you have a freeloader on your wireless. Buy your own router, turn off the wireless if you do not need it. make sure you use atleast WPA/AES anything less isn't secure. You can secure it by programming the mac addresses of your laptops into it, that will make it harder to attack.

I would take the line if you have a freeloader on your Wi-Fi it is their equipement at fault. Do make sure your kids are not downloading warez/movies filesharing. Another thing that could be the problem is your computer has a trojan on it which is being used for spamming.

Sounds a bit strange, we had o2 at uni and between us we downloaded the earth and never had a problem =/ Maybe is some other fair usage other than bandwidth?

Re: Just Had My O2 Broadband Cancelled???

I thought one of the best reasons for using O2 (besides savings if you're a mobile customer) was the no download cap?

It sounds like either a mistake their end (hence no warnings) or you have a freeloader like others have said...

LLU is cap free. Normal none LLU service isn't.

Both of mine accept WPA (and WPA2 IIRC) fine. But they are crap yes. Mine regularly bombs out and resets

For both O2 and Be LLU there is a fair usage policy which does not state a hard limit for bandwidth use, apparently there is one, but its very high

Same with the router, quite terrible, for me changing options or switching it off can sometimes result in all my settings being wiped except the connection settings.

As for the OP, fair usage also includes hacking, spamming and virus sending (and other illegal activity not associated with downloading/sharing) which I've heard Be/O2 terminate instantly, but do find out exactly what the issue is.

Re: Just Had My O2 Broadband Cancelled???

I use my O2 wireless router to prop open my door, its not very good at that either.

The Port forwarding doesn't work on them and you can only have a DMZ id you are on ADSL1. My 2820 gets better sync and actually works.

The Access package (which I believe the OP must be on) does not have a high fair usage policy - 02 were recently sending warnings out to users using as little as 20gb a month and telling them to reduce their usage or face being disconnected.

Access package is using the old BT IPStream, O2/Be using LLU doesn't have hard limits, but yea I guess if OP is using the Access package then the limits are very low, but I would have expected at least a couple of warnings before a disconnection.
