Last night I tried to connect my father's laptop, to the wireless network in the house. So got the physical address from doing the ipconfig /all , and found the one I needed 'Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection'. The other two addresses were for the LAN and the bluetooth. So I open the router settings and add the new mac address, add it and then closed the page. Went over to the laptop which on a sticker says 802.11 a/b/c, draft n . I double checked in network connections for a wireless card, and sure enough there it is. So I then double click the wireless icon bottom right, and search for the home network. Double click to connect and then enter the network key (twice). Thinking this was all sorted, and that all was ok........I was very wrong. It came up with the limited connectivity for some reason, so I clicked repaid but that failed to do anything.
Now I know the mac address was correct as there were a number of zeros 0 and not the letter o (i'm right in thinking that a 0 with a line diagonal in it is a zero?) I checked the router page again and it was correct. Next I checked the properties for the connection on the laptop, security was wpa2-psk and there was a box with AES (i think). So all looked ok and I rebooted the laptop but still no connection! The odd thing was that the router was showing a wireless connection, as the wireless light on it was lit.
I'm not sure what else to try with this ?!? There is no wireless on/off switch on the laptop, and once i entered the network key it tried to connect.
I did try the whole thing with my laptop..... removed the network and set it up from scratch. I was able to find the network, enter my network key, and get internet access.
This really has me stumped :| (Sorry for the long post)
