WLAN access points... Wired --> WLAN bridges

I 'need' to connect up my gamecube to the net having finally found a broadband adapter (it's just a NIC).

I'm currently running an ad-hoc WLAN network - my firewall and laptop both have cards and I was thinking of getting a bridge for the cube so that I don't have to do any wiring, etc.

Anyone used one? Will they work in ad-hoc mode or do you need an access point? And what exactly does an access point do? My firewall is set up as a DHCP server and obviously provides NAT and filtering... What else does an AP do -- is it just a WLAN switch / router or does it do something else 'special'?

I'm not 100% sure. But some accesspoint have a mode called "Wireless Client". Which makes the AP to an antenna: Gamecube with Ethernet->Ethernet-Cable into the AP->AP. This sends everything onto your wavelan, and it will work just as wireless-card.

I think that's the easiest way to fix it. I know that D-Link have this mode in some of their accesspoints.

Hmm, I was just surfing the web and stumbeld upon a thing called "D-LINK DWL-810+ ETHERNET-TO-WIRELESS ADAPT 22MBPS". Maybe something?
