Recommend a wireless VOIP Router & will ADSLNation XTE-2005 work?

I currently have Thomson 780WL & have it tweaked as my BB here is awful - i can barely get 2Mb. I get frequent disconnects which maybe down to my tweaking but was wondering if there is anything better out there. I asked one of the specialist online shops & they recommended the DrayTek Vigor 2710Vn Wireless N ADSL2+ Router /w VoIP (300Mbps) & a ADSLNation XTE-2005 Professional Quality Master Faceplate Filter.

My ISP thinks i should be able to get around 3Mb but without my tweaking I'm lucky to get 1Mb

    Any thoughts?

I've used Draytek (2600, 2820, 2830, 2920 series) for years at work and they are really good routers; lots of functionality and very reliable. however, I haven't had any experience using them on a connection with a poor SNR... also, a cheaper/good option is to use their Vigor 120 DSL modem in combination with a decent Cable/Ethernet router.

Found out elsewhere that the BT Business Router is very good for long lines in terms of stability so got one but can't get the voip to work with my 3rd party providers. So have just gone back to the speedtouch atm

If by BT router you are talking about the 2Wire heaps they provide then I would seriously think again. BT 2Wire are the worst just after the BT home hubs.

Drayteks are the way to go with poor ADSL. You can ask their tech support (or used to be able to do) for different firmware for their routers that cope better with lines that are miles from the exchange.

I deal with Drayteks every day - they are excellent bits of kit and I've only had one fail on me. But, given that lightening fried the ADSL circuit I forgave it.

Fair comment, i now have 3 routers that i bought secondhand & am coming to the conclusion i would have been better just buying one new one. I will try & get in touch with Draytek about the 2710 vn which was recommended to me elsewhere.

The problem with 'tweaking' is increased instability.

On longer lines you basically have a choice between speed and number of disconnects. In the end, everyone just goes for the most stable option.

I'd much prefer 1.5mbs that disconnects once a week, than 3mbps that disconnects when a local fly has a fart.

Get yourself a router where you can grab all the adsl data via SNMP and work out how best to use your line. I would assume the above dratek should do it, if not buy a cheapo cisco 837 and get testing.

    * all this depends on level of computer competence.

    tweaked i can achieve 2Mbit untweaked I'm luck if i can get 1 :-(

I have been in touch with my isp but short of moving house, i'm kinda stuck...

At my last place i was getting just under 7 - so thats why i find it very frustrating
