Smile Should I use a Wireless Card Adapter or USB?

I'm not sure which one, the USB seems easier but if the card gives better reception I'd rather use that. My router is also a Linksys so should I buy the same brand wireless card or adapter? If not can you recommend any good adapters, I need it for gaming so I like a good latency without spending massive amounts.

Re: Should I use a Wireless Card Adapter or USB?

Personally I would always use a card if I can, as usb dongles have a habit of getting knocked (damaging port and device if you are unlucky) and if your using it for your wi-fi your need it plugged in most of the time. bandwidth wise USB 2 is more than enough for a wireless N connection, however do make sure (unlike I did) than any access point you buy as a gigabit port as N can do 150Mbps, and fast ethernet is only 100Mbps. I also believe that USB dongles place more of a load on the computers resource (however this might not be true these days).

Re: Should I use a Wireless Card Adapter or USB?

Is this a desktop or a laptop? is this the same computer you wish to play WOW on? If it is, I would not use wi-fi for online gaming. Otherwise I would sick to brands like Dlink or Linksys.

A desktop, I always use wi-fi for gaming and it's perfectly fine. We have a decent router and everything, I've never had any problems :P

Re: Should I use a Wireless Card Adapter or USB?

I started with a WIFI card in my latest build, the reception was poor - swapped to a USB "dongle" - It had a bigger antenna than the card, and also came with a short stiff but bendable usb extension. So I attained a far higher signal strength with the USB.

I also managed to snap the antenna off the PCI card, which was the reason I jumped to USB anyway.

    Desktop - i7 930, XMS3 6x2GB DDR3, X58A-UD3R (rev2), 2xHD5870 1GB (CrossFireX), Crucial C300 64GB , 2x2TB WD Caviar Green, Corsair 650TX

The TP-Link ones are quite decent:

I have a TL-WN722N and it does a decent job for the price IMHO.

There maybe latency issues using wireless for gaming.

Had a lot of success with these: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/edima...reless-adaptor
