    XBox 360 Wireless Adapter

Hi wonder if someone can help me i'm looking at buying my nephew an XBox 360 for christmass and i dont know which would be the best way to to get the console online. He share's a broadband connection (Ntl 4mb) with his brother, he has a wireless connection useing a Belkin wireless G router this is in his brothers room connected to the ntl modem and in his room he has connected to his PC a Belkin 54mbps Wireless G Usb - Adapter. Could he use that USB adapter or would he need the Xbox 360 Wireless Bridge ?, or would it be better to use an ethernet cable from the XBox 360 to the router. Will he be able to play online if his brother is useing the internet at the same time ?. Any advice would be most appreciated thanks in advance.

I have the wireless adapter and have to say for me it works fine. Means when I am in my bedroom on a poxy 15" TV i am wired to my wireless router (as it sits in my bedroom) and when I want to play on the plasma in the lounge i use the wireless adapter.

With that connection he will be fine playing online if someone else is using the internet, as long as his brother is hogging the upload & download bandwidth at the time.
Well, I can cut it in half!

this is important. if he even thinks about firing up a P2P program or downloading that 2gig game demo while your playing then you have to break his face. it will lag at the worst possible moment

Not sure of you can just plug in any old USB adapter but I do have the official one and it works fantastically well. I went out of my way to ensure that I could use wireless as I didn't want a horrible cable trailing around the place every time I wanted to go onto XBox Live. Be aware that to play games against other people that you have to have an Xbox Live subscription. Just in case you didn't know...

I would say wired is best, but that because I think the 360 wireless adapter is a horribly overpriced, if there is really a problem with running around cables then get the wireless adapter, I don't think it's much worse than wired really, AFAIK, you need the official 360 one.

For the internet, so long as his brother is only lightly using the internet (i.e. browsing web pages, downloading small files directly, etc.) then it should be fine, it will be a bit more laggy that otherwise, now I'm sharing my connection I notice my Halo 2 ping is mostly in the yellow now, but it's still perfectly fine to play most of the time.

EDIT: Oh yeah, if you decide wired, and need ethernet cables, I suggest you look on eBay. My network uses cables bought on eBay, they work fine and it's half the price as in the shops.

I have my 360 plugged in to my PC, which then uses a wireless connection to a router in another room, which then connects to my cable modem. It took a bit of faffing about but it works fine

The benefit of this is that I saved myself ~£60 and the ethernet cable came in the box along with the 360

    Re: XBox 360 Wireless Adapter

I have the wireless adapter connecting to a Netgear DG834GT which is downstairs (appx 15mtrs as the crow flies with a wall and roof in the way) I get a strength of four green bars and have not yet suffered from lag. The adapter itself is quite expensive but I think its worth it.

Hey, i have the exact same router as yours and i can not for the life of me get the XBox 360 Wireless Adapter to work, constant red light, no wireless options in the xbox dashboard..... What setting do you use in the router to get it working?

    Re: XBox 360 Wireless Adapter

I've been thinking about this for my brother at home. Could I get away with a wireless extender/access point like the following

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

and just connect the 360 to it using a network cable?

AFAIK yes you can, I've just never tested it so can't make any guarantees.
