    Who offers the best service?

well, not so simple as I'll be restricted for choice. Initially I thought there was only BT but, according to Samknows, I will have the choice of BT(not infinity), Talktalk, Orange or Plusnet.

Talktalk is listed as LLU btw.

So who would I most likely get the best connection from?

    Talktalk.

I had Plusnet for a month and they were terrible. Speeds just slow down considerably during peak times! Forget downloading , u cant event browse!

I was converted from Tiscali to Talktalk and they still had decent speeds despite many people not liking them.

Re: Who offers the best service?

Most likely they'll all be re-selling BT, anyway. I'd be looking at what their customer service desks are like. I've used Tiscali - Terrible, BT - Surreal. But Plusnet were pretty good.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Plusnet are now owned by BT, though their service was pretty decent for me when I used them (going back nearly 4 years now) they did go through a period of questionable decisions - mostly around introducing a traffic prioritisation system that nobody seemed to know how to configure. My Parents are still with them on a Value package including landline and they've been pretty happy.

I'm going to try and bribe one of my relatives that live in that area and are on BT to do some speed tests at various times of day.

I thought that but, Talktalk are listed as LLU

Maybe it is just an error in the listing ?

Re: Who offers the best service?

talk talk do have an extensive llu network so its very possible they could have their own kit in the exchange.

Problem is Talk talk Customer service is notoriously bad. I know a lot of people who worked there and they are more interested in call volume than fault resolution so you can have real problems getting a line fixed.

Zen are good though (not that I am biased because I work for them or anything hehe)

Like all ADSL products, the quality is service is based on how many people and the type of users who are on your exchange.

If it's maxed with one eyed parroty types, it's going to be crap.
If your town is full of over 60s, you'll be fine.

I'm with plusnet and apart from some mad traffic management between 7pm and midnight (for torrents and things they dont understand) they are great.

Re: Who offers the best service?

The number of customers on an exchange can affect the service but when things go wrong the ISP makes a hell of a lot of difference.

A staff that know what they are doing will fix a fault a lot quicker than offshore call centres reading from scripts

Plus Not all isps traffic shape like plusnet. Zen dont and neither do sky

Sync speed is only part of the problem. Overselling is a bigger issue.

The main issue is you get what you pay for

I'm on a £40 pm plusnet business tarriff. Apart from torrents between 7pm and midnight, they truly dont give a monkey's toilet.
