    Ubiquity UniFi APs

They look fantastic! They mount on the ceiling of your office / room and are controlled centrally from the software provided. They are PoE but you need to use their PoE adapter to get them to run (one comes with each device)

The only down side up to now is that if you use Orange UMA they don't seem to work with it (like most APs for some reason)

Anyway I paid about £60 each for these and the management software is free. Pretty decent if you need to create a basic Wi-Fi network for your home or office and they look the part as well

yup and the killer is UMA didn't work on the Cisco kit either! lol I am still stuck with a huge army of WRT54Gs all over the place in work as they are the only APs (well routers really) that can actually give good performance with UMA. Crazy!

They look very swish - where in the UK can we get them from? They don't appear to have a UK disti from what I can see.

    Re: Ubiquity UniFi APs

You can get them for ~£40 if you badger the distributor enough Decent bits of kit, you can install a router build from Ubiquiti on them as well if you so wish, see http://www.ubnt.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25524.

I found that it was only O2 phones that had been converted to UMA (Orange) via my sneeky backdoor method. Real Orange phones where fine on it with UMA.

    UMA - Unlicensed Mobile Access?

IE - like the vodafone sure signal stuff?

hmm, misread I think. These don't do it just act as a managed wireless setup? they look good though.

    Re: Ubiquity UniFi APs

UMA just routes what would usually be cellular traffic over the Internet via WiFi instead, a good solution to poor signal quality in many buildings and it prevents people using those awful signal repeaters.

yeah so like the "sure signal" device vodafone offering - this ubiquiti device is just an access point though right?

No, not quite. UMA has the phone connect to the network via its WiFi radio, which is why it works (in theory) with any access point. Vodafone Sure Signal is a femtocell, a small base station which connects with your phone via the usual GSM radio.

Cool I assume you need to do some handset configuration for this to all work?
