    Re: Anyone on Virgin 30mb

Does anyone "in the know" know if it would be worth upgrading from 20Mb to 30Mb now, rather than waiting for the speed doubling to come into effect ?

As in , I know i will get an immediate 10mb boost and be on a better circuit, but am i likely to be financially better off waiting for it or doing the upgrade now ?

Not sure if it's my lack of negotiation skills but i never seem to get anywhere when i try to persuade them to discount an upgrade for me.

To be fair, we don't do that much streaming, and with the tivo having its own 10mb line, I can't argue that we will in future...
Wait till your contract expires and then phone them up and speak to "Leaving VM". Blame the economy etc... and ask them to offer a better deal!
It helps to research the compitions prices and quote there numbers.

    Re: Anyone on Virgin 30mb

20 or 30mb both get bumped to 60, you get a lower download limit before you get your speed cut if you came form 20mb thats all. after 9 or 10pm its free for all anyway!

    Re: Anyone on Virgin 30mb

I'm also thinking of making the upgrade, especially now that the Virgin Media Traffic Management policy seems to have been amended since I last checked and the Large tier is restricted to a "40GB Download limit per month", whereas the XL tier remains unrestricted.

Other than the wireless signal being somewhat poor on the Superhub, I'd rather not have to fork out on a functional router as well, as I have other new toys in mind.

    Re: Anyone on Virgin 30mb

There is no monthly limit, there is a morning (10-3pm) and evening (4-9pm) limit that will cap your speed if you exceed it, bandwidth will be quartered for 5 hours. After the 5 hours (regardless of time of day) bandwidth will be restored.

You may find you were looking at the national traffic management policy and not the fibre optic one.

Upon closer inspection, I can see that you are indeed correct. Thanks for clearing that up. I was aware of the restrictions that you've referred to and there used to be a table explaining the various limits for the different packages throughout certain hours of the day. However I am unable to link to that particular table any more and am redirected to a page which states: "Customers with Broadband size: XL / L / M – during peak times, we moderate the speeds of the very small proportion of customers who are downloading and/or uploading an unusually high amount. Where we improve upload speeds, we'll also be adjusting our traffic management in the upgraded areas so everyone can get a fair share."

Hopefully VM will put up an amended table shortly. I'm still interested in upgrading to the XL package as it's only a few quid more.
