Your concerns were pretty much the same as mine DK. I had a firm stance on not going with anyone that uses any sort of traffic management.

In all honesty though after looking into BT, it became clear that even when 'managed' (and I must stress that only affects to P2P traffic) then I would still be getting a faster speed than any ADSL connection, and in most cases, what Sky fibre offer.

Usenet is not managed on BT infinity - it's not a P2P protocol and maxes out 24/7.

I do under a TB a month, and a lot of that is syncing uploads to online backup services like Dropbox and Gdrive. There are people on the BT forums though that are pulling in insane amounts - literally maxing their connection 24/7 and they've had no issues.

I'm going to sift through BT's policies in a moment but just in general I have another question seeing you already have fibre installed.

From reading forums and watching the BT inifity installation video on their website it appears that the open reach modem needs to be connected to the master socket. With my current and previous providers I've never used this socket as I get the same speeds from other sockets and it's inconveniently placed in the lounge where all computers are based upstairs.

On the BT video it states that the open-reach engineer can use a 30m extension cable to reroute the modem to somewhere more convenient but others have claimed that the engineer has been okay with moving the socket for them where others have refused to move this socket. Just wondering how yours is setup and thanks for the info it is very helpful.

My house is quite new, so the master socket is by my front door. It did have an extension from the last owners but I removed it as I have wireless phones and I was sure it was causing issues with my ADSL connection back then.

I can't comment on if they allow it to be moved I'm afraid - it's not something I had to do. My Openreach modem connects right into the master socket, and then from the modem into a standard router.

Looked through P2P throttling and some BT users state it can be minimal others state it is significant, I suppose a call to BT very soon regarding the master socket issue should clarify whether it can be moved or not. Thanks anyway buddy.

The connection from the openreach modem to the hub is a standard ethernet cable, so if you can cope with having the modem in the lounge you could run a long ethernet upstairs to the hub and have that more conveniently placed.

I do about 100-150 GB a month and have no throttling issues. Getting that sort of allowance on other ISPs seems to be very uncompetitive at the moment.

Simply turning on Encryption in uTorrent causes the speed to rocket in my experience. After that, there is VPNs if it's still an issue, but at an added cost.

To be fair, I can understand why BT don't want people hamming the connection 24/7 with torrents. They are hardly friendly to bandwidth when distributing files.
