Need help with selecting a wireless package for blueyonder adsl

I have a pc and laptop. The laptop needs to be wireless but the pc doesnt have to be. Does the wireless kit replace the current cable modem? Or does the cable modem plug into the wireless router (is that a contradiction in terms)?

Plz give me your experiences with setting up a wireless network. Ill take a look at a review to find some more info.

Currently I have a Linksys befr41 4 port router with built in firewall. It sometimes needs reseting to get the internet back after a dropout, but other than that its quite adequate.

Okeycokey - assuming your cable modem is the standard Blueyonder supplied Motorola Surfboad, on the back you should see an ethernet port labelled something like 10/100. You'll be plugging this into the WAN port on your router. You could simply buy a wireless access point and plug that into the LAN side of your router, but frankly, given the cost differential I'd be inclined to go for an all-in-one box, like the Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router . This also provides 4 wired ethernet ports and includes a Stateful Packet Inspection firewall.

They're not hard devices to setup. If the laptop doesn't already have wireless, you'll need a wireless ethernet card, and again I'd go with
Linksys , if only because although you can use any wireless card with the router, when it comes to securing it, a 3rd party card will need you to enter WEP keys and that sort of thing manually, whereas with the Linksys devices when talking to other Linksys devices, you can use a passphrase. I've also found them to be pretty reliable.

I'd agree with devices from the same manufacturer - and if you're using Win XP, turn off the inbuilt wireless wizard thing.....although SP2 seems to have changed it!
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
