Wireless PCI Card + Win98SE = no hair left

AAAAAAAH!! going quickly mad on this one

i have a dlink G520 PCI wireless jobby, and im trying to install it on a win98 machine. It installs fine, i can conect to my router, buuuuut the problem is, it makes the machine stutter and respond incredibly slowly.

The mouse moves only every second, then stops for a second then moves again. and to open control panel takes about a minute. ive checked in device manager and its installed fine, with no irq conflicts

anyone know any solutions, i'm losing my sanity!!

    TIA

ps i know the router isnt a problem as i have a laptop using a PCMCIA card with it and thats hunky dory - cos its what im using now

Just a guess but is your 98SE box a bit wimpy on the power stakes? What are it's specs?
You may well find that a cheap memory upgrade would help a lot.

Anyone else got any ideas? - Andrew.

there might not be irq conflicts, but it might be sharing an irq with something else, have you tried putting it in a different slot yet?

it is a bit of an old machine - 1.2 TBird with 512Mb of PC133 - should still be enough for a wifi card though?

yeah, i tried changing the slot it was in, but still no joy. i read online that it has compatibility issues with soundblaster cards, but even after removing and uninstalling that it still didnt want to play.

think its time to try XP on this machine

hmmm got XP installled (after a fight) - althought the Wireless card still causes the system to stutter

im guessing it's conflicting with another piece of hardware. i've removed or disabled everything which was sharing an IRQ and still nothing.

The card is now sitting in a P3 450 machine, which i'm going to use as a download mule, so at least it wasnt a total waste of money

so - anyone know of any wireless PCI card that are totally 100% compatible with XP Pro?

    Thanks all!
