BT caps on ADSL & other ISP`s

    Hi lads
do you think other ISP`s who now have unlimited downloads on BB ADSL will bring in caps in the new year jan 2005 like BT are going to do.

well if they do then its going to be the start of the end for BB.

Caps kinda go against the purpose of BB.

imagine if you were on one of the basic tarrifs that gave you like 1-5gigs a month. Ok that fine for a general web browsing and cs playing person. but if you wanted to say download HL2 via steam, or play planetside you going to hit the cap in a few days.

what if you download movie trailers, or use the internet as an offsite backup

what if you host a website that needs updating frequently

Caps are a stupid idea that really causes problems to many ppl. ok the majority of customers wont notice a thing but those that use the internet alot will. And i dont mean the pirates, i mean the ppl who use it for legal high bandwidth uses like i have just mentioned

Well, there's already two-tier pricing (for capped versus uncapped) operated by quite a few BB ISPs - Nildram for a start; essentially they've not brought it in instead of uncapped but as a lower cost alternative to it. It's not heralded the end of broadband, and I don't think it will.

B.T are going to start capping in 2005 and any1 who is a bt bb user should know that. as emails have been sent out. i got mine over a month ago thats why im now on cable instead lol.

but any isp,s who rely on bt will suffer the same fate as it would be suicide for bt not to make sure all other adsl companys turn to capping aswell.

But i can say 100% definately that bt are goin to start

I have to agree it seems like BT are putting their head on the block at this time (2005) by doing caps on BB for all users unless there are going to be some major price change in the new year which will be a problem for all isp. What i think will happen is that BB with drop to a very low price for the lowest user customers below £10.00 month for a few Gig then a much higher price for Uncapped.
