Unhappy PCI modem woes [no2] :)

slightly different to mr malfunction's problems... i'll explain.

ive had adsl for over a year, internal modem, works lovely. a mate is having adsl installed in a few weeks time but thought he could get a modem and get it setup in his computer, bring his comp round to mine to make sure it was all setup so when bt activate his line he can connect straight away.

well, thats theory, in practice it just doesnt work. after spending some time installing the drivers (tis a zoom adsl modem) we can connect to 'adsl' but it then is disconnected in less than a second. which aint useful. vpi/vci is setup the same (0,38) as my computer, and afaik its the same connexant chipset, so all thats different is the modem and software.

basically, why is it dropping the line, the settings are the same as my comp which works fine, it just defies logic. oh and drivers are the latest ones of the zoom website

This might be a dumb question, but is he trying to connect using YOUR detaisl for YOUR ISP, or is he trying to connect with his own BT credentials?
