Go for cable if you can.

Genuine always-on - none of this ADSL dialler rubbish - 750kbps for £27.99/mo or £25/mo with another service (phone/TV)
'Phone cheaper than BT - £16/mo with entirely free off-peak calls
(Telly if you want it... - £4.50/mo for basic package, more for more)
I got £40 off, first 2 months free and free install...

If you can't have / don't want cable, then Tesco.net are doing 512kbps for £19.99/mo

I have just moved to PlusNet and it goes ahead on the 1st Nov.... Chose them from my old one (BT Opnewrold) cause they have no caps on their prem service and I can get a 2MB line

Cant comment on what they are like service wise but everywhere I go ppl recommend them.

Well I like NTL for my broadband, it aint cheap (£37.99/m for a 1.5mb/s ) but it's very reliable & very fast and there's no cap on bandwidth. However if they don't revise their prices soon I may switch back to adsl.

By the way, just to reiterate, the Tesco service is *unlimited* 512kbps for £19.97/mo

I'm not aware of any cheaper... (although you can double the speed for less than double the price - such as Plusnet 1Mbps for £29.99/mo)

I've just moved house and gone for Eclipse (http://www.eclipse.net.uk) after looking at dozens of offers. They have some decent pipes to the backbone, and have just joined with Kingston Communications (Hull) so are going up in the world.

    I've gone for 512k Flex Service;
    Uncapped 512k Line
    £20 +VAT per month (£23 inc VAT)

The Flex means that I can log in on their site and "Flex" the line to 1Meg for 1,2,4,6,8, or 12 hours for 4.5p per hour !

Ordered the line Saturday lunchtime on the website, it was working when I got home from work on Monday

Service i've seen so far is spot on... was allocated a Dynamic IP, logged on and clicked a request for Static IP, options for 1,2 or more... clicked 2... done... message saying "Your static IP's are xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, you may need to reboot after making the changes"

edit: Oh, and sign up b4 the end of the month and get free flexing for 1st month.

I honestly can't give you much advice on that - I've been connected for about 2 weeks, but frankly it has been absolutely perfect since then - although they did nip the price up from £25 to £26 in those two weeks.

From previous niggles with pipex at home it's been really smooth, but two weeks in no time interval to judge an ISP on. Most of my judgement went on the fact that it was cheap and had a month's contract, and the guy who does the technical side turned up on the adslguide boards to ensure a user was getting >100kb/s.

Very good first impressions though - questions through e-mail/phone swiftly answered.
