Blocking a P2P connection on my router

ok now my sister has a P2P program on her pc (winmx) this is badly affecting my ping (see below) which when her pc is off is around 34.

and also annoys me is there anyway of finding out the port this uses or just blocking the installation file being downloaded in the first place.

When she's using it - if its a decent router you'll be able to see what ports she's using ... just look for one that you know doesn't do anything else and block it. Or install WinMX on your machine and see what port it uses (its in the setup IIRC - not used it in along time).

Or perhaps ask her to not use it?

6699 & 6257 are the ports used by WinMX.

Good luck locking down the connection with an iron fist!

Make sure you send her an e-mail to let her know what you've done, or she'll start demanding you 'fix' her computer.

Or compromise, let her know which hours she can use he software and which must be free for gaming. I suggest you give her 0645-0700.
