    Download counter.

    Hi.

I got Broadband! Woohoo! I have to be careful, though, cause I've only got 15Gb of downloads per month to burn. I wondered if anyone had heard, or knows of, any kind of software that would alert me when I'd used up the 15Gb. I have fears of downloading a lot, and then a long session of web surfing tipping me over the limit. I don't really want to pay the extra: saving up for a new rig!

    Thanks.

Well, unless your P2Ping constanting it would be hard to use 15gb of bandwidth. On my network with 3 users (dad working from home, and me and my bro) we don't use over 10gb per month.

As for programs that can track how much is being used try netlimiter (www.netlimiter.com)
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

samurize (www.samurize.com)- and use the desktop themes that are available to monitor you usage

As for 15 Gb I used 2-3 Gb last night listening to internet radio for 6 hours or so, so its VERY easy to batter the connection and break the limits

    netlimiter can alert you

15gig is a very small amount you dont need to p2p constantly to break it, lots of file transfers (eg between home and uni as in my case, or for other reasons) will easily break your limit.

streaming media - one of the origional benefits of broadband that BT used to sell it (oooh the irony) also eats it up

I listen to the radio usually whenever I'm on the PC (quite a lot), and I'm sure I don't use that much. I think the highest I've used this month is 0.75 in one day (download and upload together).

I hope this information is correct since we're going to start being capped next week .

I dread to think how much I used when I left internet radio on for 35hours not that long ago. I uploaded about 3gb today, it's very easy to break a 15gb limit. But this all depends on what you're doing, I know some people who wouldn't touch a quarter of this.

I use bandwidth monitor pro, although it does monitor local trafic too which is a pain.

I would also like to know if Down2Home & Netlimiter differentiate between local & Internet traffic?

I use media centre and constantly watch the music video channels and reuters news. These are all good quality about 300k-500k encoding so god knows what I use in month

Thank god for ADSL2+ in November hey...

Like I said, downhome doesn't differentiate (probably didn't explain it very well).

Netlimiter can differentiate between the two types as you set this up at the start.

I use dumeter but that just keeps a log of you downloads and current speed, very handy for me although i'm not limited to a set amount of bandwidth.
