Thought I'd start a poll as people I've talked to who have wireless networks seem to have very mixed results. Sometimes its flawless, sometimes its whores drawers, other times its totally brown bread.
Whats the general opinion?
... is flawless/only needs maintenance every few months
... is unstable, but useable most of the time
... is unstable, and a PITA

depends on the access point, wireless access card/dongle - presence of dect phones, mobile phones and microwaves
i.e. my home office is great - but am using a usb dongle to access on my desktop machine, so occasionally drops out. however when using laptop on the couch - I get interference from neighbour's access points causing frequent packet loss
when using bluetooth to my desktop - wireless will frequently drop out, or my dect phone can also cause some problems.
when using laptop in my office - never had any problems due to high quality antennas mounted on the walls
Works flawlessly, although every now and then I suffer from that ******* Windows XP problem where the connection will not drop, just go very very slow

Change your channel to as far away from their's as possible, or haxx0rz them, whatever's good....Originally Posted by scottyman

mine has been a rock solid from the start and ive had it for two years.
its a d link 614+ 11 Mbps one. The Dect phone is two foot away and doesnt
mess with it at all as far as i can tell. Got my laptop out and i can pick up the network
about 40 to 50 metres outside my house.
Saying that my bros gf got a linksys 54 Mbps router with a couple of pci and one
pcmcia card (all linksys same model type etc) Now the range to one of the computers
drops down to 2 bars at best link quality i have no idea.
I have a buffalo W54 or something crazy like that I live in the uni halls and it has 20cm thick concrete walls yet it manages to go through about 12 of these walls and still keeps a connection with max ping of 15ms. Most of the time the pings are 0 - 5ms. However the biggest transfer speed we've had is 370kb/s which won't do when I move flat and get a 4Mbit cable line
