Xp pro Xp home network problem

    Hi all,

Can you help? I've connected my laptop (xp home) to my pc (xp pro) with a crossover cable. I can access files on the pc from the laptop, but not vice versa. The error message reads:
"Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer"

I have made sure both computers have the same administrator name and password, and have logged on with admin rights on both. I have surfed the net for advice with little luck. Any advice, pitched at a lo-tech level, would be hugely appreciated

    Have you tried

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy

    Then check under Local Policies:
    User Rights Assignments
    Security Policies

See if anything there may be unusual!

    xp networking troubleshooter website

'Local security policy' is not an available option on xp home.

If anyone is reading this looking for a solution, the following website may be helpful: http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm.

I'm working through the quite in-depth troubleshooter- I think the problem lies with the permissions, but I haven't solved it yet. Xp pro can see xp home in the workgroup, but I get the error 'logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logo type at this computer.'
