    What router.

Im looking for a router modem combination, or a router and ethernet modem. At the moment im using another pc as a gatway which gets to be a bit of a pain, and uses up the juce.

Does any one have any recomendations, good/bad experencies with any makes or modles. Having a hardware fiewall is the only must have feature to me.
the current favorite im considering is:
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=59951 ( im pretty sure that has a modem, most linksys seem to be pretty badly worded in regards to that)

I dont need wireless but its only a few quid more than the non wired virsion, so might as well. Any way any help would be gretly aprisiated, it seems hard to pin down a good review as alot of people end up sladering routhers for there inability to cofigure them.

I now suggest Netgear, becuase I got some excellent support from them when mine went wrong.

So long as you register online with them, to get the warranty, they are very efficient

Bit more dough than that though

I suggest 2wire's HomePortal all in one hardware, either one of the 1000HG or 1800HG model would do for what you wanted.

You will not need support much if at all. The models linked above are nearly 100% idiot-proof, very easy to use, and even have built-in DSL line quality measurement.

Well, if you're ok without Wireless, then that Netgear is the kiddy

I know people slag off Netgear, I've heard it loads, BUT simple fact, although the cal centre is in India, I got very good assistance, and then a replacement shipped to me for free when I had grief.

    So I'm 100% Netgear now

Nein and idear where you can buy them?

The main thing im desiding about now is firewalls. Which ones have the best. And what types are there the linksys has a NAT firewall whereas teh netgear has SPI are there any good en's with both and are they worth having?

It might not be easy to acquire them, it is really and truly first class hardware currently second to nobody (even if they are somebody - Cisco, Linksys, DLink, Netgear, etc...). The demand is really high for large volume ISP/DSL providers to their own customers.

In the UK You might try it through BT --> Linkyfied.

I found some through BT but thay say for bt braudband only, chances are they screwed around with the firmware or someting... Ill have a look at that link. Other than that Linksys or Netgear??

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=52244

Found the netgear wireless, use that as the alternitive to the linksys i put in the first post.

EDIT: Found a 2wire on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...sPageName=WD2V Id have to import it from us! And it seems to be jam packed with confusing features. Why does it come with 5 phone leads (or is it some fool american)?? Will it work over hear?

I've 3 different DSL services in 3 different states from having multiple residences - RR in Hawaii, SBC in California, and Verizon in Texas. I do use dial-up, but avoiding it whenever possible.

I carried a 2wire 1000HG in my luggage bag just to check DSL line quality when encountering problems, especially when the dumbass DSL tech supports try to blame it on the poor line quality in my residences.

I even used it to check my friend's DSL lines when they asked for help, it had always worked wherever I went, so far about 18 completely different DSL services in multiple states.

But I can't tell for 100% that it will work for you in the UK, you'll have to check with your DSL provider to make sure they do support...

I have a netgear router that is working very fine I suggest you look at some of the Netgear's one. It's quite good support I think...

Otherwise there's Linksys, that's been working pretty well I think.
Although, do not pick D-Link, since I've (almost) just heard bad stuff about em'..

    Good Luck
