Two eldest daughters have PC's in their rooms (at their mums house). Daughter 1 has internet access and I want to set that up as a gateway & link daughter 2's PC to it.
Both PC's run 2k. So the cheapest way to do it is.....?
...a second NIC in PC1 and a crossover Cat-5 cable to PC2
or to be more flexible a cheap 4-way router and a load of normal Cat-5 cable
or to be easy/lazy, a wireless router, a Cat-5 cable to PC1 and a PCI 11b/g card for PC2
When i networked our very old pc to the old one, used two network cards scabbed out of a skip at my dads work. Got a cheap bit of cable from the same skip (about 15 meters) Got some rj45 ends form an electonics shop. 50p each. Stuck em ont he end in a cross over layout. Hey presto network got £1!
Windows xp and 2k working fine together. I found it was best to set the ip's on the one with the modem and let the other figure them out automaticaly.
