    Cheap Cheap Rig

Hey I am a newbie to this forum and a blatent newbie when it comes to building PCs. The most I've done is install a CD-RW a few years ago on my old celeron 433

Anyway, Im looking to build a super cheap PC basically from scratch so I have been digging around various websites and forums and have come up with this wee system.

    SOCK 939 + PCI-EXPRESS

    COMPONENT
    Abit AX8 (Socket 939)
    Athlon 64 3000 Winchester
    DVD Drive
    SATA HD 80gb
    Crucial Technology 256mb
    Prolink Geforce 6600 PCI EXP
    midi tower 400w silent

2nd hand monitor from a mate

    TOTAL £378

A few things I would like you to comment on are:
The motherboard (I basically went for the cheapest one that offers socket 939 and PCI-Express)
The graphics card: It is the cheapest 6600 Geforce I could find, Its also in PCI-Express so I thought that could be qutie fast

The midi tower from Dabs - Im not planning on overclocking or anything (at least until I get more money to improve the PSU ) but could I get away with that cheapo case+PSU fr a few months?

The fact I have no sound card listed - will I still get sound from the motherboard?

And any other general comments/improvement suggestions would be much appreciated

Whatever you do, don't use a cheapo PSU. There's no point spending loads of money on your computer to blow it up because you didn't spend a few more pounds on a PSU. Get a decent brand like Antec, Thermaltake, Tagan or Enermax.

Also spend the extra £20 for another 256Mb of PC3200. 512Mb is the absolute minimum for todays machines.

I've recently upgraded from a 1.2Ghz/512Mb to a 2500/256Mb and the 1.2 was far quicker when multiple apps are open, and for loading textures in games.

socket 735? now you're just making them up. you dont work for intel do you?

3000+ are available for 754 and 939. 754 is the 130nm Newcastle core, and the 939 is a 90nm Winchester.
