Question Router messing me around i think

Basically me and my flat m8s are on a 1mb line going through Draytek Vigor 2200 USB router. As soon as we both join the same server, the ping goes spastic. Ive done many speed tests and they are fine. I dont know wot else it could be. Could i have screwed up router settings? if so is there a program where i can allow someone else to access my pc and let them correct settings?

Perhaps you are both trying to assign to the same IP, try setting up static IP's (obiously different).

press start then run and type cmd. once cmd is open type ipconfing

look at your assigned ip address, it should be something like 192.168.1.2

to make that ip static, go to network connections and cick properties on your network card.

Look for the "internet protocall tcp/ip" item and click properties, click 'use the following ip address and enter your ip address, the subnet mask should appear, and your default gateway is your routers IP (usually 192.168.1.1)

Your DNS server should also be your routers ip address.

    Hope this helps.

This may not be the problem but its worth a shot.

Edit: just make sure all computer ip's are different. If they are the same problems will occur.

It is local area connection (LAN - local area network) The 1394 connection is the firewire connection.

Yes try changing the settings for each pc. But change it on one pc and see if that pc works any better first though.

you might be able to login to you router remotly by typing your WAN IP (Internet IP) into a web browser. Depends on your router, might have to enable Remote Login in the router. Go to www.whatismyip.org to get you IP.
