    Telephone exchange locations?!?!?!

Does anybody know of a website that will tell you where your local telephone exchange is situated so you can work out the distance you are from it?

    Thanks

Put your phone number in the BT checker - tells you the name of the exchange your connected to - often gives you an indication of where the exchange is.

I don't think there is anywhere that tells you how far from the exchange is as far as the line is concerned. As for locating the exchange, I just found out where mine was, can't remember how, I just remember always knowing where it is

There is a BT number you can call that estimates the difference... but I forget what it is.

ADSLguide used to have a link to an independant page that gave you a map of your exchange location - but it seemed to stop working about the time BT's webby started telling you which exchange you were on as Jiff said.

Not a fat lot of use there

    Smile Re: Telephone exchange locations?!?!?!

I have found this website that allows you to find the locations of all the phone exchanges in the UK and what capabilities they have.

    w w w.samknows.com/broadband/search.php

there are other links on the left of the same page that allows you to list all the exhanges by type (eg ADSL, ADSL Max etc). Also you can check if you line is broadband capable from here too.

Its his first post too. Probably arrived at the thread via a search engine, registered and posted.

Its a handy site though. Just found out that Be are now available on my exchange.

I also, now know that Im on the central Leeds exchange, about a 15/20min walk, which explains why I get ~4mb on my line.

Useful thread revival mind you - the only thing I don't like about thread revivals is when I start reading from the top and then realise I'm reading incredibly old messages...

    Otherwise, nice one m_treleaven!
