Right atm my network looks like this...



however my other flatmate just just brought a new laptop and wants to connect to the net / network wirelessly - Cant afford a wireless router yet and have a wireless nic kicking about so was thinking something like...



That would give him access to the download box and everything on there however could i share the rest of the network (and internet access) that way?

Not sure here, but the "download box" will have to act as a wireless access point in order for the laptop to see it.
In which case it should work as long as u share the net and other resources on "download box"

yup. you can set up the download box as a bridge in windows setup
