Wireless Help! Please :)

Hi there,

Thought I'd post this on here, as this forum looks full of clever people

Anyways, I'm with wanadoo at present, and what I need is a wireless router.

I've got a Dell Laptop with wireles built in, so all I need is one of those thingys that sends the internet connection around the house, without the pc with the internet connection having to be on

I have a Speedtouch USB modem, if that helps.

Can anyone reccomend a router thing? I was thinking of getting the one made by wanadoo, because I'm USELESS with computers, and that looks easy to set up.

wanadoo don't make routers

I think most people on here would recommend the Linksys WAG54G (seems less prone to dropping connections/freezing up)

Oh, I thought they did, they have some Live Box for sale.

That Linksys WAG54G looks funkay, will that do everything I need and be easy to set up?

Last Question: May seem stupid, but does your PC with the internet connection have to be on to share the broadband connection?

No; the point of getting a router is to make the connection PC-independent. That, and you get some extra security. Decent routers these days have a proper firewall built into them.

Linksys kit's usually very easy to set up, but make sure you check the manual for how to set up WPA-PSK encryption on your shiny new wireless network .

Ah...also check what version of the firmware it comes with; should be 1.00.19, but if it isn't, you can download the latest HERE.
