NTL - got 3Mb broadband free for 12 months

Strange thing just happened to me which I can't quite believe

I decided to cancel all my NTL services (phone, TV and broadband) so I could swap to 8Mb ADSL so I duly rang on Monday listened to their once in a lifetime offer of free telephone line rental for a year then confirmed the disconnection.

When asked why I stated I could get more bandwidth for less money (as I live in an area with an unbundled exchange) which I thought was then end of it BUT.........

I got a call this evening from a customer services rep offering me free broadband for a year whilst still cancelling all my other services

Hopefully the offer letter they are going to post won't hold any nasty surprises!

Surely this will be using NTL's definition of "free". Meaning you pay them on the understanding they will give a refund. Then they sometimes "forget" to give you the refund. I think NTL's whole business model is based around that concept.

dunno the rep confirmed that I would pay nothing and said I could cancel my direct debit if I wanted too ?

Make sure you get that its goign to be free in wrighting. Then when the bill comes trough you can chuck it back at them. Think youself lucky. My lines too long to get anything faster than 512, i hate bt! (ony 2miles phiscal distance from the exchange)
