    Broadband

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew if its possible to move house and bring your broadband connection with you?
Will they charge the activation again or what?
I am on the unlimited 1 meg BB with bulldog for £30 pm. Is it worth paying off the rest of my contact (2 months) and getting a cheaper one and definately pay the activation again.

Also, I've heard that if you connect to broadband and then cancel the phone service, you will still be able to connect to the internet. I mean, can I get rid of BT and save myself some line rental. The phone line is only used for the internet...

    Thanks for any help.

Depends on your ISP whether they'll charge you a reconnection fee if you move house, phone them and ask and if they value your business they may well do it for free.
I'd be extremely surprised if you cancelled your BT line rental (and didn't switch to anyone else) and expect to get broadband - your number would be removed from the exchange and your line would be disabled........unless someone from BT cares to share with us a workaround

I have emailed bulldog and they havn't replied yet... They should value me cause I am paying over the odds for a 1 meg line!

I was asking cause a friend had his bt line disconnected for not paying his bill and he could still connect to the internet.

    Another question...
I've been looking round for prices and some say free connection. Does that mean free activation or is that extra in the small print?

To my understanding, "connection" and "activation" are the same thing in ADSL terms. Some ISPs do migrate your service for free, but I've no experience of Bulldog.

Got a reply to ring the phone number.
Been on hold for 7 minutes to be told to pick different options!
Now on hold again and its been 7 minutes and counting....
I now see why no-one else is on bulldog!

    Got through after 10 minutes.
They will move my contract and not charge me a new activation. Also they can put me on a 2 meg line instead of a 1 for a fiver less per month and I won't be starting a new contract.

    Does that seem ok?

    hi joe
I just went onto the 2 meg from the 1 meg at 30 quid and saved myself a fiver too, the good thing about Bulldog is that it isn't capped and for 24.99 for 2 meg service isn't that bad until we get the exchanges upgraded were snookered to get the 8 meg service, the only downside and a big one is Bulldogs customer service, it sux big time and I think im usually doin well if i get through within 15 mins...

Saying that they say they are taking on more staff, yeah right.......

The only mainstream that was cheaper uncapped, that I saw, was onetel where you can get line rental and broadband http://www.onetel.co.uk/index.php?no...rnet-broadband
as to the situation with ya mate still getting his broadband without paying line rental that seems a bit suspect because you have to have a connection through the exchange to your property and that usually means you need to pay for the line be it BT etc.

Buldog are also doing 19.50 for 6 months and a quid to connect to your new line in ya new place though so that seems cheapest

I hope this helps a bit

What sort of speed difference did you get from 1 meg to 2?
How long did it take to change the line from 1 meg to 2? Overnight or weeks?

    Thanks for your help.

Downloading speed went from roughly 1.15 ish meg to over 2.2- 2.3 when it settled down which does make a bit of difference.

It took roughly a week which caught me out because i suddenly realised that streamin, downloading and gameplay seemed much better for me anywayz

As i stayed on the same line i could have migrated to another supplier but i have never had any prob with BC and ive been with them for over a year and a half now as long as you dont need...DER DER DERRRRRRRRRR customer services!!!!!!
    Anywayz goodluck m8

    Has anyone used PlusNet

The premier account costs £21.99 and is 2 meg and the contention ratio is 30:1.
Wheras bulldog is £24.99 for 2 meg and the contention ratio is 50:1.

    Any opinions?

Yes, I use PlusNet. Remember that the 30:1 ratio is only on PN's Centrals. If the BT local connection is more contended than 30:1 (can be 50:1) then you'll derive no benefit from the 'Premier' contention setup versus the 'Plus'. That said, I've had no problems at all with throughput on my 'Premier' account. I don't use P2P, though.

Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?

I'm gonna be signing up for Plusnet Premier soon.... You should try reading through the forums over at www.adslguide.org.uk , you'll find all the info you'll ever need there.

Pretty sure Plusnet Premier is as fast as your line will take. To get the Bulldog 8mb deal your exchange would have to be Bulldog LLU enabled, which most aren't
