    Internet speeds?

Hi guys I have a 2mb wanadoo adsl line, when I signed up they said I could gain the full 2mb and I’m fully supported for that level. I have a wireless setup and checked the speed using a speed tester. It came in at 750.. which is a long way short of the 2mb. My wireless is fully protected and noone else was using the internet according to my router.

Is it worth me ringing up and asking about it ? anyone know any good speed testers?

You need to look at the ratio of your connection as well. The more people that have it in your area means the slower it will be.

contention ratios for most domestic products are 50:1 so 50 other people could be sharing that 2 meg.

you can ring up but they aerw unlikely to do anything about it.

    try the adslguide speed test.

Before you knock the ISP on the nose with a slap see if it's simply wireless slow down.

    I'd guess it is

Yes. I've seen some cases where a wireless connection got less than 1 Mb a second. As soon as a network cable was connected and the IP address allocated I reran the Adslguide speedtest and the speed was just under 2 Mb.

Well in my experiences of networking, my "100Mbps" line was only mosying along at around 11Mbps, now you must remember the reason why companies can get away this mis advertisment is that when they test the speeds their products, they do so under the most perfect of conditions, i.e. really short cables, lightning fast computers etc.

Im with Zak on this. make sure u test wired connectivity before u blast your ISP.

Although my wired and wireless network both work happily at the 2mbit specified on my ADSL line.

Also if possible see how fast your transferring to your local network as this would help pinpoint the slowdown. Check for latest deivers/firmware updates etc

    Nemz.
