256kps. No change until you hit 8Mbit downstream (and then its 768kbps).

As for Zen. Yea, they are expensive. But I had no complaint other than that. 407kps is slow though, I constantly had better than that. The thing is, if I wanted to upgrade, I would have to pay (pretty standard I guess). Whereas a migration to F2S would be free.. and I'd get up to 2Mbit. Even if contention hits, it probably would be better than a 512kps anyway. Hence I took the bait.

    Thumbs up Eclipse Internet

Maybe not the cheapest but I have been with them 2 years no probs also set up about 20 other people with them all happy totally reliable. I had to phone CS the other day for a customer of mine phone was answered in 4 rings CS phoned bt while I was on the phone and sorted the problem excellent service. Aslo one of my customers on eclipse downloaded about 180gb last month eclipse haven't said a word so they get 10 out of 10 from me.

    Digitizer....

I'm with Zen too. I get 578 on my 512 every time. I get the speeds I should be getting(almost 60 down, about 30 up) all the time, and the support is great. If only they do a free speed upgrade sometime within the next year or so then they'll be the best, as it is, they're expensive for what they offer, but they do give alot of extras. email, backup dialup account, 1Gb hosting, dedicated and regularly upgraded Usenet(newsgroups including binaries) servers. All included in the package, theres more, but I cant remember it all.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but how do you know how much the line can take? And also how do you allow a higher speed?
    Thanks

(btw i'm with bulldog! :O, personally i didn't have any bad service with them, ordered it arrived promptly, had a lil prob with it rung up customer services got through straight away, rung me back 5 mins later with a solution. Only other lil prob i've had is being billed twice in a month...they realise like an hour after they sent out the bill tho)

Most DSL companies or BT can tell you that. If you contact them.

AOL is quite good - it is basically unlimited everything. Their ''live help'' is also fairly good.
    as for price:
    £17.99 for Silver (512k)
    £24.99 for Gold (1MBPS)
    £29.99 for Platinum (2MBPS)
We have been with them for about 5 years and not really any complaints.

Nothign wrong with liking AOL. Mostly newbs and sometimes not-newbs but people who just don't care use it. The basic standard connection to their internet works fairly well, and you're not capped. Course they make you use their browser and half the stuff I install seems to say "does not work with AOL", but if they suit your needs, fair enough.

Tiscali is cheap but has awful customer service, lousy speeds and latency - I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. A royal "you get what you pay for" scenario.

AOL has half decent speeds but the software is awful as is the customer service, there are cheaper and better options than AOL IMO.

Getting back on topic, F2S at £24.99 for an unlimited 2Mb connection is excellent value - customer service and speeds are good also. Although they do have cheaper options available with bandwidth allowances etc.

Hmm "Tiscali fine" - wait until you try to migrate away from them... Biggest snag with AOL is their software which tramps all over your PC...

I have to agree - They sort of do force you to use the AOL software and the phone help is absloutely rubbish. we only got a good deal because we were going to leave and then they begged us to stay and offered us a good offer!

If you're in London and can run to £24/month, then you can get 24Mbit unlimited service, with a 1.3MBit upstream... which should be plenty for a small house of net users generally... BeThere are offering this at the moment.
